Young swimmer Mark Justine Africano, a grade 8 student from Cauayan City National High School, clinched three medals in the Asian Open School Invitational (AOSI) Aquatics Championships 2024 held at Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand, February 2-4.
Africano claimed his gold medal in the 50-meter Freestyle Junior category carrying the Philippine flag against 14 contenders from Asian countries along with securing a medal also in the 4×50 Freestyle relay.
In an exclusive interview by Bombo Radyo Cauayan with his father, Jetz Africano, the 13-year-old swimmer put his record at 26.32 seconds, nearly surpassing the Philippine Record at 26.15 seconds.
Additionally, he beat his personal record in the Batang Pinoy Championship timed with 28 seconds in the 50-meter Freestyle.
Notably, his father expressed joy because Africano represented the City of Cauayan and the Philippines.
Africano targets to join the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Championship to qualify for the National Sporting Event or the Palarong Pambansa where he was unsuccessful last year.
