CABATUAN, Isabela — Isabela State University (ISU)-Cauayan Campus representative Noverly Agub emerged as the provincial champion in the recently concluded 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz Provincial Elimination held at Upi, Gamu, October 28.
Held as part of the 35th National Statistics Month celebration, the event centered around the theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation.”
Agub, a freshman of Bachelor of Secondary Education, bested 16 other participants from six State Universities and Colleges. However, she emphasized that her opponents were ‘magagaling at hindi madaling kalaban’.
“Actually, I was not thriving to win this event. I just want to learn, enjoy, and participate. But as I felt the support of my family, classmates, friends and our dear coach, it gave me motivation na dapat ipanalo ko ‘to at patunayan na may kakayahan din ako,” she highlighted in an online interview.
She further stressed that being a provincial champion is an unforgettable experience, despite the pressures and time constraints she faced.
Campus-based National Statistics Month quiz bee second-placer Andrae Ghil Trinidad from the College of Computing Studies, Information and Communication Technology also participated but failed to enter the top rankings.
Jestoni Castillo, Instructor I, served as their coach, providing guidance and support throughout their preparation for the competition.
Additionally, Associate Professors Ryan Salviejo and Lorraine Abe, adviser and co-adviser of the Alliance of Principled, Responsible Individuals and Mathematics Enthusiasts (A-PRIME), of which Agub is a member, offered their unwavering support to the two representatives.
Moreover, ISU excelled with multiple podium finishes: Cauayan Campus claimed first place, followed by Echague Campus and San Mateo Campus in second and third place, respectively.
